Frequently asked questions.
Here are answers to some of the most common questions parents ask when exploring tutoring with MR Tutor.
Do you teach online or in person?
Yes. I offer both online lessons via Google Meet, using interactive slides, digital whiteboards and shared resources, and in-person tuition in and around Felixstowe. Online tutoring makes it easy to learn from anywhere in the UK, while face-to-face sessions suit pupils who benefit from direct interaction.
What ages and stages do you teach?
I work mainly with primary and early-secondary pupils (roughly ages 6 to 13). Lessons follow each child’s current curriculum, whether that’s KS1–KS3 of the National Curriculum or First to Third Level of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.
Do you support children with SEND or ASN?
Absolutely. I have extensive experience teaching learners with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and other developmental or emotional needs. Lessons are calm, structured and flexible, using multi-sensory strategies and short, focused activities to keep children engaged and confident.
How do we get started?
Simply book a free consultation using the enquiry form or by emailing info@mr-tutor.com. We’ll talk about your child’s learning goals, schedule a first session, and outline a clear, personalised plan.
Which subjects do you cover?
Core tuition focuses on Numeracy and literacy, alongside science, history and geography for wider-curriculum learning. I also provide outdoor education, targeted support for 11+ preparation, study skills and home-education planning.
How does online tutoring work?
Online sessions take place through Google Meet, with shared slides, live annotation and interactive quizzes. Children can see, hear and collaborate just like in person. Parents receive quick feedback after each session, and all resources are stored digitally for easy review.

Do you help with 11+ entrance exams?
Yes. I offer structured 11+ preparation in verbal and non-verbal reasoning, comprehension and problem-solving. Sessions build exam familiarity without unnecessary pressure, focusing on strategy, accuracy and calm confidence.
Do you offer outdoor learning?
For pupils in the Felixstowe area, I integrate outdoor learning into lessons where appropriate, exploring maths, literacy and science through nature. These sessions build curiosity, focus and wellbeing, and can be adapted for all abilities.
Can you support home-educated children?
Yes. I work closely with home-educating families to provide structure, curriculum coverage and progress tracking while keeping flexibility at the heart of learning. Parents receive planning guidance, resource ideas and regular check-ins.
How much do sessions cost?
Fees are typically £40 – £50 per hour, depending on subject and support level. Shorter sessions are available for younger pupils. Every new pupil begins with a free 15-minute consultation to discuss goals and find the right plan.
Are you DBS checked and insured?
Yes. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, plus Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance. Safeguarding and confidentiality are central to all my work, and full policy details are available on request.
How often should my child have tutoring?
Most families choose one 60-minute session each week. Some opt for two shorter sessions, especially when focusing on reading or arithmetic. Frequency can change as confidence grows; it’s always tailored to your child’s needs.
